2 Sley
The part of a loom mechanism in which the reed is fixed and which moves the reed forward to beat up the weft. The sley sole extends across the loom, and is formed at the back with a longitudinal groove to receive the lower rib of the reed. The upper rib of the reed is held in a groove in the sley cap. The sley is moved to and from the fell of the cloth by arms connected to the sley and the cranks of the crankshaft of the loom, the sley swords pivot on a rocking shaft mounted at the foot of the loom.
